Telling the truth

Telling the truth

If something bad happens

because we tell the truth

it

isn’t

bad.

It may be sooner than we wanted

it may make our suffering a little sharper

for a shorter period of time

It is still good.

(Being hurtful and disguising it as ‘being honest’ respectfully omitted from this theory.)

The past few weeks

I have watched some truly brave humans

Get shut down

Slapped

Ignored

Fired

For the truth.

If it still feels bad, I promise, it is not over.

“Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate, or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it.” —Henry Miller

As a corollary — if telling the truth gets you fired, in the long run you’re almost certainly better off not being there. And the place that fired you for it is in trouble anyway.

But as one who recently spent 3 months unemployed…it might be better to find the new job first. 🙂
